Cuando las empresas deciden expandir su mercado a otros países deben traducir todo a ese idioma. Una de las traducciones más importante son los slogans ya que con ellos llegarán a la gente. Cualquier error que cometan en su publicidad puede llevarles a pérdidas económicas. A pesar de contar con profesionales cualificados, ninguna empresa está exenta de cometer fallos a la hora de traducir sus slogans. Podemos ver como grandes compañías se han convertido en victimas al intentar traducir literalmente sus slogans.

Algunos de los errores de traducción más llamativos y sorprendentes cometidos por grandes empresas son:

  1. La marca de bebida Pepsi lanzó el slogan “Come alive with Pepsi”. En Taiwán, la traducción literal fue “Pepsi traerá a tus antepasados de vuelta de entre los muertos”.
  2. Por su parte, Coca Cola se lanzó su bebida al mercado chino con los fonemas “Ke – kou – ke – la”. Una vez publicada su publicidad, se dieron cuenta que en chino significa “muérdeme el renacuajo de cera” .
  3. La empresa de aspiradoras Electrolux utilizó el siguiente mensaje en los Estados Unidos: “Nothing sucks like an Electrolux”. Esta frase en español puede traducirse como “Nada peor que una Electrolux”.
  4. La compañía aérea American Airlines lanzó el slogan “Fly in leather” para promocionar asientos de cuero. Fue traducido literalmente por “Vuela desnudo”.
  5. La marca Clairo sacó al mercado alemán un rizador de pelo llamado “Mist Stick” sin darse cuenta que “Mist” significa estiércol en alemán. times-square
  6. La cerveza Coors tradujo su lema “Turn it loose” literalmente al español y dio a entender que su cerveza provocaba malestares estomacales.
  7. Por último, la marca Schweppes fracasó cuando sacó al mercado su slogan “Schweppes Toilet Water”. Una confusión les llevó a llamar su producto como “agua de baño” en vez de “agua tónica”.

Para evitar malas traducciones, las compañías deben contratar a buenos profesionales que sepan traducir y adaptar los sloganes en los países donde se quieren expandir.
